Obituary

Mrs. Lodusky Doolittle was born in the town of New Milford, Susquehanna county, Pa., Aug. 16, 1837; died at Cumberland, Wis., Sunday, Feb. 8, 1891, aged 53 years, 5 months and 22 days.

Deceased was the daughter of Stephen D. and Elmira Williams. She was married to William Doolittle at Princeton, Bureau county, Ill., Feb. 18, 1854. Soon after her marriage, she with her husband, moved to Osceola, Polk county, Wis., where they lived for several years. Finally they returned to Princeton where her husband enlisted in the 93rd Reg. Ill. Vols. He served three years in the army, and then returned to his family at Princeton and followed farming with fair success. They afterwards moved to Texas, where her husband died in the year 1881. With her family, Mrs. Doolittle then returned to Streator, Ill., where she remained until 1888, when she came to Cumberland, where she has since resided.

Deceased was the mother of seven children, two daughters; Mrs. Woodson Dyer, of Atlanta, Texas, and Miss Elma, and five sons; Lewis M., Sylvester J., Arthur W., Wilford D. and Fred, all of whom are still living.

Mrs. Doolittle was a consistent Christian in religious belief, a kind and self-sacrificing mother to her family, and a highly esteemed neighbor and citizen in the community. Her loss will be keenly felt by a sorrowing family, which has the sympathy of the community in this sad affliction. They will profit by the noble example she has ever set before them, and the powerful influence for good which she exerted over them will follow them to the grave.

The funeral was held at the Congregational church, Tuesday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. T. F. Murphy conducted the services. The remains were laid to rest in Lakeside cemetery. [Thursday, Feb. 12, 1891, Cumberland Advocate, Cumberland, Barron County, Wisconsin.]
