He died at 11:30 A.M., Friday, September 2, 2011 at home.
He was born on April 13, 1941 in Port Royal, PA the son of Ben and Marian Groninger. He was a retired U. S. Air Force Lt. Col serving for 20 years as a pilot having flown the SR-71 Blackbird.
Bill Groninger was the younger of two sons of Benjamin Edward and Marian (Van Ormer) Groninger. He lived much of his youth in Old Port (Turbett Township), Juniata Co., PA. Bill was born April 13, 1941 and died September 2, 2011.
He attended Freedom Elementary School and Tuscarora Valley High School where he participated in soccer, basketball, and baseball. He also played the trumpet in band and he was his classes President for all four years. He attended college at Shippensburg University, graduating in 1963 with a BS in Education (math and science). While there he played and coached soccer and was again the class President in both his junior and senior years. Later Bill would earn his Masters of Science in Educational Psychology at Troy State University.
In addition Bill has a Doctor of Divinity degree, he had a black belt in karate, and had a commercial pilot license. (Information found in his entry in the Port Royal 200th anniversary website on 9 Dec 2018)

He is survived by his wife Lynn J. Groninger of the home. A daughter, Christine Calderiao of Warrington, PA, a son, Gene Groninger of Sacramento, CA, a Step-son, Robert Bigley of Lancaster, PA. 8 Grandchildren. A brother, Ben Groninger of Slidell, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ben & Marian Groninger. Visitation will be Tuesday from, 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.
