Sampson Lanier Jr. was the son of Sampson Lanier Sr. and Elizabeth Washington. He was the grandson of John Lanier, and Richard Washington & Elizabeth Jordan. He married Elizabeth Chamberlin in Virginia.

He was a Vestryman of the Parish Saint Andrew, Gentleman Justice of the Co. Court. High Sheriff of Brunswick Co., Va. No will, his estate was settled by the court Sept. 5, 1759.

Sampson Lanier, born 1712 Surry Co, VA, received in his father's will a slave Mingo.

He married ca 1739-40 Elizabeth Chamberlain, daughter of Samuel Chamberlain.

Hill 10/1761. Married-2nd: Mary Kirby-Colson. Was a Revolutionary

about 1796 to Mary Dickson, daughter of William Dickson; d.
12/15/1827), Elizabeth Lanier (b. 1769 m. in 1785 Anson Co, NC to Maj. John Jennings, son of John Jennings and Lydia Batts, Thomas Lanier (b. 1770 Duplin Co, NC m-1st: in Anson Co, NC to Mary Colson?; moved to Stewart Co, TN in 1809 when he inherited land from his bro. 6. Ann Lanier (born 1760? Brunswick Co, VA; married 1st: William Moore; married 2nd: Maj. Thomas Vaughn; d. 2/8/1833 Williamsboro, Granville Co, NC)

7. Agnes Lanier (born about 1750, Brunswick Co, VA; married William Davis, Revolutionary soldier; died 2/21/1813 Wilkes Co, GA-- their daughter was Caroline Amelia Davis who married Saunders Walker Faver)

8. Lewis Lanier (born about 1753-6, Brunswick Co, VA; Patriot--reportedly crossed the Delaware River with George Washington; married Ann Butler 9/21/1778; died 2/12/1839).

Sampson Lanier died 9/1757.
