Inscription around the border of Barnabas Horton's stone says, "Here lyeth buried the body of Mr. Barnabas Horton, born at Mousley in Lester-Shire, Old England & dyed at South-Hold the 13 day of July 1680 aged 80 years."

In 2015 a book entitled, "In Search of Barnabas Horton" by Jacqueline Dinan was published. There is also a family tree on WikiTree, "Barnabas Horton (abt. 1600 - 1680)"which is based on this book (See footnote below for link to the tree).* As I was developing a new Bio for this memorial based on the new research done by Dinan, a message was received from a fellow Find A Graver regarding her recent correspondence with Jacqueline Dinan about her research. In part of her response, Jacqueline Dinan stated, "Regarding Jone Fletcher: in hindsight, I believe I made an error and confused two Barnabas Horton. When initially researching, I found no record of Barnabas and Jane after 1638, but subsequently I found more children of their baptized in Walsall in later years. If I release a second edition, I plan to correct that mistake." Dinan also indicated in a subsequent e-mail that Barnabas had another wife, Dorothy, after Mary Langton.**

As the research by Jacqueline Dinan is still the most accurate and the best that is out there, I have decided to pause the Bio and hope that she comes out with a second updated edition. This type of research is extremely difficult, and even when you think you have it right you may not. We look forward to seeing if Dinan is able to break down some of the brick walls involving Barnabas Horton, especially as it regards his ancestry and immediate family.

I am deleting the older Bios on this memorial based on the 1878 book by George F. Horton, "Horton Genealogy: or, Chronicles of the Descendants of Barnabas Horton, of Southold, L. I., 1640," since his book contains numerous errors, including the parentage of Barnabas horton.*** "The parents of Barnabas Horton have not yet been proven. Joseph Horton and Mary Schuyler have been widely copied over and over again, but there is not one shred of reliable evidence that they even existed! Dinan thinks his father was probably Libbeus Horton, but further research would be helpful. Thomas Horton of Springfield, Massachusetts is often shown as a brother of Barnabas, but an article in the New England Historical and Genealogical Society's magazine American Ancestors, Winter 2018, reported on the 'Recent Findings from the Horton Surname Project'. This Y-DNA Horton Surname Project at FamilyTreeDNA.com has proven that Thomas Horton of Springfield and Barnabas Horton are not related."****
