Emmitt graduated from Era High School in 1947. He served as a tank driver in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He surrendered to preach in 1964 at Calvary Baptist Church in Denton Texas. He graduated from Arlington Baptist Seminary in 1967.
He pastored several churches from 1968 - 1992. At the age of 70, Emmitt retired and became interim pastor for several churches in their time of need. He was in the ministry for 50 years. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas.
Emmitt's family was a precious part of his life. His Lord was first, Barbara, was second and his children and grandchildren were third. His love of his dogs was unbelievable. His sense of humor will truly be missed by all that knew him. He was a very hard working man who loved life to its fullest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dupree and Leona Clampitt, 3 brothers, Marshall, J.D. & Bill, 2 sisters, Dorothy McClendon and Opal(Jackie) Hanks.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara Ruth, son Harold of Runaway Bay, two daughters, Gaya and Brady Perkins of Lubbock, and Kathy and Danny Knox of Plainview. Grandchildren: Tammy Farmer, Mike Hale, Danny Clampitt, Melissa Kramer, Kris Clampitt, Jeff Quisenberry, and Lisa Ramos. 17 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday March 3rd 6-8 pm at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors, Denton Texas. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday March 4th 10:30 am Valley View Cemetery. Memorial Service will be held at the Bethany Baptist Church, Lubbock, Texas Saturday March 7th 1:00 pm.
