Rosary for Leo Francis Tierney, 78, a retired lawyer who moved to Scottsdale seven years ago from Chicago, will be at 8:30 p.m. Tonight in Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd.

Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Out Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Miller Road at Second Street. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Mr. Tierney, 6339 E. Sage, died Sunday in Good Samaritan Hospital. He was a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and had been the senior partner with the firm of Mayer, Friedrich, Spless, Tierney, Brown and Platt before coming here.

He served as an assistant to the U.S. attorney general in connection with the 1925 riots in Cicero, Ill., and acted as counsel for General Motors in the DuPont antitrust cases.

He was a member of Mountain Shadows County Club, the American, Illinois, New York and Chicago bar associations, Phi Kappa Theta and Phi Alpha Delta fraternities.

A native of Lead, S.D., he had practiced law in South Dakota, Iowa, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; five sons, Leo Jr. of Madison, Wis., Dan of Alexandria, Va., Tom of Aurora, Ill., Pat of Raleigh, Tenn., and John of West Virginia; a daughter, Joan Colson of Fayetteville, N.C., two step-children, Volney Chase of Sylvania, Ohio; and Jerry of Chicago; and a sister in Nebraska.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Arizona Tuberculosis & Respiratory Disease Association, 1229 E. McDowell, Phoenix.
