Calvin Denver Johnson was born March 7, 1905, and departed this life Jan. 5, 1944, age 38 years. He was united in marriage in 1928 to Lorene Johns and to this union one son was born. Surviving are his wife and son, Bobby Gene; his mother, Mrs. Nora Johnson; one sister, Faye; three brothers, Clifford of Springfield, Mo., Olen of Richmond, Calif., and Roger of Sparta. He was converted early in life and was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at Sparta Baptist Church Jan. 8 with Rev. Lynn Swadley of Springfield officiating with burial in Shipman Cemetery under direction of the Sparta Funeral Home, Rathbun & Chaffin.
