Richard Merrell was my grandmother's cousin. His mother was Elizabeth Warner who was the sister to my great grandmother Mary (Mamie) Warner, Isabella, Anna, Catherine, Charles, John, James, and William. His father was Fred Merrell. They had five children and Richard was the only boy. His sisters are Audrey, Joan, Marilyn, and Barbara.
Richard is best known for his acting in the ABC sitcom "One Life to Live" where he played Herron the butler for 12 years. Richard, however, was an accomplished writer and wrote for early soap operas and episodes of Alfred Hitcock's television series.
Richard married fellow actress Janice Miner in 1963. They did not have any children. They did have a wonderful 35 years together. They even had time to act along side one another in plays.
Richard had many friends both famous and not so famous. He is remembered by all as being a very smart and kind man.
