NIXOLA CASTLE
(1918-2011)

Nixola Barker Castle, age 92, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Friday morning, September 2, 2011, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

She was born October 29, 1918, in Carter County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Henry and Lillie Roar Barker.

Nixola was a 1938 graduate of Olive Hill High School and was a member of the Mills Branch Apostolic Church for over 25 years. She worked in the post office and volunteered at the library when she lived in West Virginia. Nixola was a foster parent for over 25 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and going to church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 20 years, George Miller, and her second husband of 11 years, Arza "R.Z." Castle; four brothers, Cecil Barker, Melvin Barker, Clayton Barker, and Jack Barker; and three sisters, Lola Barker Carroll, Goldie Barker Bailey, and an infant sister.

Nixola is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Grant E. "Pee Wee" and Anita Wyre of Beckley, West Virginia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Lou and Donald Wheeler of Lexington, Kentucky, and Virginia Ann and Ray Datson of Summersville, West Virginia; six grandchildren, April Wheeler of Lexington, Kentucky, Melanie Allen, Brook Wyre, and Moriah Hope Wyre, all of Beckley, West Virginia, Loretta Matthews of Cowen, West Virginia, and Heaven Moore of Mt. Nebo, West Virginia; ten great grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Pat Barker of Grahn, Kentucky. She also leaves many extended family members, church family, and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2011, at the Mills Branch Apostolic Church in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Paul Tussey and Pastor Larry Joe Ruley officiating. Burial will follow in the Roar Cemetery in Grahn, Kentucky.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011, and until the service hour on Sunday at the Mills Branch Apostolic Church in Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Larry Singleton, Sam King, Tim Collins, Austin Collins, Tim Garvin, Mike Caudill, and Jay Lewis will serve as pallbearers. Josh "Peanut" Sturtevant, Arturo Bayes and Zack Ruley will serve as honorary pallbearers.
