Hernando - WILLIS A. "Buddy" HINSON passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was 89 years old. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Esther Hinson; and his sister-in-law, Snooks Dawkins of Memphis. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Rena Hinson, Sr., sisters, Ardis Wilmoth and Kathleen Hinson, and brother, Carl Hinson, Jr. A proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served bravely in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. Buddy and his wife served as past State Directors of the MS-TN Chapter of the Good Sam's Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Southaven, MS, the Marine Corps League, the VFW, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. In addition, he was instrumental in organizing the Eudora Fire Department, serving as Assistant Fire Chief and being named a Charter Member. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent either to First Baptist Church, Southaven, or to the Marine Corps League (www.mcleague.com). Visitation will be held at Hernando Funeral Home on Thursday, September 1 at 10 a.m., with the service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the cemetery of First Baptist Church of Eudora.
