Robert Calvin Hooten was the son of John J. and Melissa Dunham Hooten. He married Eleanor Ramsey, Nov. 10, 1859, Effingham Co., IL. He enlisted in Co. K, 98th IL Infantry and was injured in a train wreck. He and his brother, James M. Hooten, were unable to continue with the unit.

Obituary:

Eufaula Republican, Eufaula, OK, 21 Nov 1913 - R. C. Hooten of Onapa died at the home of his son, J. M. Hooten on Saturday November the 8th, after a very short illness, and on Sunday the 9th the remains were buried at the old Fishertown Cemetery. Mr. Hooten was about seventy-five years old and had been a resident of what is now McIntosh County since 1900, he having come to this state at that time with his son, J. M. Hooten with whom he had made his home. He was a native of Illinois and had lived there practically all of his life until he came here. The Democrat joins with the many friends of the family in sympathy in this time of sorrow.
