A Preacher's Mad Act.
The Rev. T. J. Cooper of Aurora Burns His House and Hangs Himself.
Aurora, Ill., Aug. 15 - The Rev. T. J. Cooper, the Methodist preacher who made so desperate an attempt to kill himself two weeks ago, set fire to his house, No. 187 Spruce street, at 2:30 o'clock this morning. The building and contents were entirely consumed, involving a loss of at least $2000, upon which, it is said, there was no insurance. Cooper disappeared, and at 8 a.m., it was found that he had hanged himself in a neighbor's barn. He was recovering from his injuries, and during the night had induced his attendant to retire to an adjoining room. Today he was to have been taken before the County Court to be examined upon the charge of insanity.
