The Rich Hill Tribune; Rich Hill, (Bates Co), Missouri; Vol. 15; No. 12; Column 4; Thursday, November 24, 1904 - A Fatal Accident. J. W. Littick, an old and highly respected citizen of East Lynne, was killed in a very peculiar and distressing accident near Eight Mile on Tuesday evening of last week. -- Some time ago he had taken a number of orders for nursery stock, and had gone to Fred Clark's to get a team with which he could make a delivery of his orders. On his way home the neck yoke gave way, letting the tongue down; the team started to run and the point of the tongue caught in the road. The occupant was thrown out of the buggy by the shock that followed, his jugular vein bursting, and his deck being broken by the fall. This happened about dusk Tuesday evening and his body was not found until early next morning. The remains were buried Friday. Mr. Littick was an old settler of this county and his untimely death will be mourned by a host of friends. -- Cass Co. News."
