He began his law practice in Blakely. Later he practiced in Statesboro and other points, moving to Mt. Vernon in 1894. The aged lawyer is an ardent fisherman, and had looked forward to an outing on his 92d birthday, but too much water has forbidden this. Instead he is about his daily tasks at home, featured by a dinner given by a daughter-in-law.
His children are Col. J.B. Lanier of Albany, D.A. Lanier of Mt. Vernon and Miss Genevieve Lanier of Columbus.
Col. Lanier is an active member of the Baptist church, and as a young man was a member of the Little Ogeechee Baptist church in creven county. Until recent years he has been active in civic affairs and still reads daily. His mind is clear and he is still interested in affairs, including National and State politics.
