John was born in Harrison County, Virginia (now West Virginia) about 1805. He married Margaret Glover on September 4, 1828 in Harrison County, Virginia and they had thirteen children: Harrison; Elizabeth; Hezekiah; Eugene; Joseph; William; James; Samantha; Maria; Margaret; Missouri; John; Minerva. About 1833 the family moved from Harrison County, Virginia to Meigs County, Ohio. John was employed first as a coal miner, then later as a farmer. He proceeded his wife in death.
