Ronald James Schaaf was one of twelve children of William and Mabel (James) Schaaf and the twin brother of Donald Earl Schaaf. He later served honorably during the Korean War, attaining the rank of PV2 in the United States Army.

At the time of his death, Ronald was survived by his sisters Eleanore Abrelat, Evelyn Hixson, and Helen Loranger, two brothers, and numerous other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his twin brother Donald; his brothers Jack and Raymond; and his sisters Beatrice Schaaf, Ethel Kezele, and Myrtle Rivest.
