REVOLUTIONARY WAR VETERAN

Claimed Ajaccio Island of Corsica as his origin. He was sailing master (first offer) of a warship in the French fleet commanded by Count deGrass that came to Virginia in 1781. He was in the Battle of the Capes and was on a ship that was in the York River at the Battle of Yorktown. He was naturalized "U.S. Citizen" at Baltimore (1795). He was acclaimed a Revolutionary War Hero by the citizens of Portsmouth.
