He was born Feb. 20, 1917, in Albion, Idaho, to Harry Phillips and Stella B. Lloyd. He grew up and attended schools in Albion, and obtained a teaching certificate from Albion State Normal School. He graduated from Utah State University.
On Dec. 9, 1937, he married Thurza L. Martindale at Burley. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He began his career as a principal and teacher, and with his wife taught grades one through eight in a two-room schoolhouse in McDonaldville, Idaho. Over the years, he was a principal and teacher in Ririe, New Sweden and Rockford before moving back to Idaho Falls School District 91 in 1955. There he served as principal of Temple View, East Side, and Hawthorne elementary schools, and for his last 15 years was principal of Dora Erickson Elementary. He was a lifetime member of the Idaho Education Association and National Education Association. His wife preceded him in death.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in various priesthood and Scouting positions. He enjoyed his family, his computer and golf.
Survivors include his children, Clifford Phillip Lloyd, Marilyn Lloyd Adams, and Joanne Lloyd, all of Las Vegas, and Allen Brent Lloyd of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Florence L. Johnson of Randolph, Utah; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two daughters, and all but one sibling.
