Grace E. Brungard was bom October 11, 1905 at the family homestead four miles west of Scottsbluff on the North Platte River. One of ten children, she was the daughter of early settlers Chris and Betty (Smith) Kronberg who came to the valley in 1889. She attended Red Top and Victory Hill School and graduated in 1923 from Scottsbluff High School. She was active in school affairs and won several gold and silver medals for her short stories and poetry. She then attended Chadron Normal and taught country school. She married Joe Brungard July 29,1924 and to that union two children were bom, Betty and Howard. In 1965 she went to work for the(Alliance)schools as manager-cook of the cafeteria. She was employed there nineteen years never missing a day of school because of illness. It was estimated that she served over one million, three hundred thousand meals to an estimated 8,300 students. The 1974 (Alliance) Bulldog Yearbook was dedicated to her. After retirement
she joined the Retired Senior Volunteer program and was a volunteer at the Whistle Stop Day Care Center for ten years. She enjoyed doing work at church functions and playing bridge.
