Pioneer Page County Resident Succumbs Monday Night After Six Weeks Serious Illness

Funeral services for John M. Fleener, 84, who died Monday night at 8 o'clock, were conducted from the Methodist church here this Thursday afternoon with Rev. Charles Rowe in charge. Interment was in Clarinda Cemetery.

Mr. Fleener, who had been seriously ill for several weeks, came to Page County with his parents, Adam and Sarah Ann Fleener from Burlington, Iowa, when he was but 11 months old. He lived practically all his entire lifetime in Clarinda and vicinity, moving to town 22 years ago when he retired from active farming.

His wife, Luna J., a son, Otis C. of Honolulu, Hawaii, and two daughters, Mrs. Al Pfander and Mrs. Gorman Howell, both of Clarinda, a brother, Charles, of Downs, Kansas, and four sisters, Ella Ladlie and Susie Ruth of Albert Lea, Minn. , Anna Shaw of Gate, Okla., and Dell Bradskey, of Downs, Kansas, survive.

He spent an active life in the community and was one of the few pioneers who watched this community grow. He often recalled how he farmed on the present site of the State Hospital north of Clarinda.
