They had three children while in Bowie County, Texas: Jess Edward born 7 June 1899; Lola B. born 20 May 1901 and James Gibbon born 5 April 1903. Carrie and her husband moved to Oklahoma in the early 1900's during a land rush. They homesteaded a piece of property in Mt. View, Kiowa County, OK and had nine more children: Aleene Lee born 2 December 1904; twins Beulah Annie and Eula Mae born 8 May 1908; Linnie Marie born 22 February 1910; Nellie Francis born 23 February 1912; Jimmy born 31 July 1915; Allen William born 12 June 1916; Living daughter born 28 April 1919 and Faye born 21 February 1922. Thery came down with pneumonia and died in 1923 leaving Carrie with ten children. The oldest children went to work to help support the family. The great depression came in 1929 making it even harder for Carrie but she always managed to feed the family by hiring out as a servant in the homes of neighbors or cleaning and ironing clothes in her own home. In 1939, several of the children came to California and convinced their mother that life would be better for her in California.
