George was a well known citizen of Sheffield Township, Tippecanoe county, Indiana. He was born in Lancaster county, Pa., and was of German ancestry. He was reared in his native county, spending his boyhood days on a farm, and later in life learned the carpenter's trade, which he followed for twenty one years, becoming a skillful and reliable workman. At the age of 21 years he went to Grene county, Ohio, and several years later was married there to Miss Catherine Mitman. They were the parents of eight children. Fianna, Lilly, Sarah E., Mary, Charles, Catherine, Henry and Andrew. George came to Tippecanoe county in 1851.
