In 1835, Samuel became very much interested in the prospect of making Texas the future home for himself and family and in the spring of 1837 started on his mission to that country. Only one communication was ever received from him after his departure. He was then on board an Ohio steamer near Madison, Indiana, and his whereabouts has remained a mystery.
