John Joseph (Jack) Picknally III passed away on Aug. 11, 2010, at Moultrie Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1937, an only child, to Alice Scott Picknally and John Picknally Jr. in Jersey City, N.J. After graduating from Fordham University in New York, he served in the Army as a security analyst/communications and spent most of his term in Germany. He left the service with a rank of E-5. He raised his family in the Bellport area of Long Island, N.Y., and was a retired social worker out of Suffolk County, N.Y. He moved to St. Augustine, Fla., in 1992 and worked at home doing income taxes for friends, also quarterly/income taxes and payroll for small businesses. He was of the Episcopal faith. He was a member of Elks Lodge #829 in St. Augustine. He and his wife, Ethel, enjoyed ballroom dancing at the Shores Riverview Club and other places around St. Augustine. Mr. Picknally was predeceased by his parents and first wife, Thelma. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Showers (Reider) Picknally; and his four children, Christopher Picknally of Arizona, Janet Diefendorf-Aylmer of New York, Nancy Axelrod of Cape Coral, Fla., Robert Diefendorf of Chester, Conn.; two grandsons, Aaron Axelrod and Bailey Picknally; three stepdaughters; nine stepgrandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. His sense of humor and quiet strength will be missed by all who knew him. There will be a celebration of his life at Moultrie Oaks Clubhouse at a later date. Craigs Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son Christopher of Cottonwood, Arizona. He also leaves many cousins from the Picknally/Picknelly Family in Western Mass and Connecticut. Among these are Carmen Picknally, Assistant District Attorney of Hampden County; Peter Picknelly, Chief Executive Officer, Peter Pan Bus Lines; and Paul Picknelly, Chief Executive Officer, Sheraton Monarch Hotel and other hotels. A memorial service for Jack will take place at 1pm on Sunday August 29 at the Moultrie Oaks Club House, 245 Wildwood Dr., St. Augustine, FL 32086.
