James McDonald

James McDonald, 61, of Sharon, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.

Services were 1 p.m., Saturday at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Martin with Rev. Dr. Marvin Mercer Sr. officiating and Rev. Eugene McDonald giving the eulogy. Burial was in Highland Cemetery in Sharon with Bowlin Funeral Home of Dresden in charge of arrangements.

Charles Conner, Jimmy Peoples, Gabe Tharpe, Gerald Skinner, Jack Holliman, Billy McMullen, Larry Atkins and Marshall Tharpe served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were nephews.

McDonald was born in Dresden, son of Billy Irvine and Mary Francie McDonald, both of Dresden. He was a 1968 graduate of Dresden High School, a retired tube operator for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Greenfield.

Survivors also include his wife, Elaine Allen McDonald of Sharon; two sons, Damon McDonald of Sharon and Willie Brooks of Mayfield, Ky.; nine sisters and three brothers-in-law, Doris Alford, Sheila and Kenneth Irvine, Margaret Capps, Jean and Rick Bailey, Lisa Edmontson and Tammie Irvine, all of Dresden, Rachel and Don McDaniel of Paris, Francis Mignone Irvine of Martin and Deborah Lawry of Union City; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Rev. Eugene and Johnie McDonald of Clinton, Ky., Johnny and Sheree McDonald of Springfield, David McDonald and Shawn Irvine, both of Dresden and Paul Irvine of Binghampton, N.Y. and three grandchildren, Dasia McDonald, Kawaii Brooks and Jaiden Brooks.

A son, James McDonald Jr., and a sister, Michelle Irvine preceded him in death.
