Simon H. Bittinger, 73, of RD 2, Route 219 North, Grantsville, Md., died Sunday, June 16, 1985 at Meyersdale Community Hospital.
Born in Jennings, Md., Oct. 4, 1911, he was a son of the late Harvey O. Bittinger and Anna Mae (Durst) Bittinger. He was a retired laborer, was a member of Maranatha Assembly of God Church. He served as a mineman third class in the Navy in World War II and was a member of Grantsville American Legion Post 214 and the Salisbury, Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
Surviving are his widow, the former Thelma M. Broadwater; two sons, Sgt. Larry Bittinger, Lawton, Okla.; Keith Bittinger, Grantsville; six daughters, Mrs. Wanda McKenzie and Mrs. Delores Hostetler, both of Meyersdale; Mrs. Sharon Winebrenner and Mrs. Debra Yommer, both of Frederick, Md.; Mrs. Kathryn Broderick, Frostburg, Md.; Mrs. Brenda Durst, Grantsville, Md.; three sisters, Mrs. Fern Durst and Mrs. Mae Hetrick, both of Grantsville; Mrs. Lola Durst, Accident, Md.; and 14 grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Howard W. Broadwater. Interment, Grantsville Cemetery. Military honors were accorded by the Grantsville Legion and Salisbury VFW posts.
