He was born April 16, 1920 in Logan, Utah to Catherine Hughes Cowley and David Cowley. Roy graduated from Logan High School in 1938 and he graduated from the University of Utah in 1949 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He served his country in Europe during World War II. Roy worked for Lockheed Aircraft and was a successful businessman and partner of Wright, Cowley and Evans for forty-two years.
In 1950, he married Betty Jean Patterson, the love of his life, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they raised three children and enjoyed fifty-four happy years at their home in Cottonwood Heights.
He is survived by his children, Timothy Roy Cowley (Karen), Rosemary Elizabeth Tencza (Ron, Favorite Son-in-Law), Christopher David Cowley (Sherrey); fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife Jean, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), with a viewing on Saturday from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
Interment will follow the services.
