She graduated from high school in Windfall, Indiana in 1915 and went back for the 50th anniversary of her class in 1965. She went to Normal School (Teacher's College) in Marion, Indiana three summers while teaching school in the winters.
In 1919 she went to work for the government in Washington DC where she met Thomas William Thatcher and they married September 27, 1919. After his discharge from the Navy, they settled in East Independence in 1922 where they have since lived until she entered the nursing home five months ago.
Family graveside rites were held May 15 in Mound Grove Cemetery and memorial services were held Sunday afternoon, May 16 at the East Independence RLDS Church where she had been a member for nearly sixty years.
Surviving are three sons- Thomas W. Thatcher Jr., Fair Haven, NJ; Ellis C. Thatcher, Houston, TX; and David Lynn Thatcher, Independence, MO; and one daughter, Mrs. Lee (Mary M.) Beckwith of Murdo, SD. She had 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976, two sisters and a daughter, Doris Lee Beckwith in 1968.
