On July 7, 1947 in Independence, MO, he was married to Rosemary Farris, who preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, William F. Dale, of Sedalia and Charles R. Dale, of Houston, TX; one daughter, Mary Margaret Dale, of Sedalia; and one grandchild, John W. Dale, of Alexandria, VA. He was also preceded in death by a brother; one sister; and a son, James Milton Dale, who was killed in action in Vietnam on November 20, 1969.

He was a 1941 graduate of Richmond High School in Richmond, Missouri, and attended Business College in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving as a machinist's mate on the U.S President Jackson, APA-18. He landed seven island invasions, first wave. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic Pacific-6 stars, Philippine Liberation-1star, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. He worked for Pittsburgh Corning for many years. Pitts burgh Corning sent him to State Fair Community College in 1974, where he earned a certificate in Supervision and Management. He was a longtime and devoted member of First Christian Church, Sedalia. Milton was a Gold Star Father, and with his family took part in the wreath laying ceremonies at the Pettis County Courthouse and Crown Hill Cemetery. On October 28, 2008, Milton went on an Honor Fight to Washington D.C., and considered it to be a high point in his life. Burial was with full military honors.
