Albert fought in France during World War I, and served in The US Army as a cook. He was discharged on May 7, 1919 at Camp Upton NY by Major John H. Dare. # 1956665, Cook, Company D, 308 Ammunition Train. He was enlisted at the age of 24 years, and was working as an automobile assemblyman. Blue eyes, Brown hair, 5 foot, 6.75 inches in Height. Albert was also up for retirement pay for working in the Cuyahoga County schools in Ohio. He served as a custodian there for 25 years. He was buried at the Holy Cross cemetary in Cleveland Ohio. The Koehl family lived on Valleyside Road in Cleveland from the 1930s onward. In the 1920 census, Albert Koehl is living with the William E. Cook family in the 24th Ward of Cleveland at 752 (or 204) East 90th Street, Ohio. Koehl is 26 years old and single.

Al worked in a bread company in Cleveland, but during the depression years, they wanted to transfer him to Chicago. His wife would not move there, so he ended up losing his job there. He then went on to spend 25 years in the Cuyahoga County school system as a custodian -- retiring there.
