Mary was born in Philadelphia and in her early adult years she worked at Gimbel's Dept Store. It was there that she met Charles F. Beutell, a native of Cleveland who had been in the Navy and stayed in Philadelphia after he got out of the military. They married on Christmas Day, 1912 and lived most of their marriage in Cleveland, with some time in Philadelphia. During the depression, Charles left the family and Mary lived on her own or with her children the rest of her life. She broke up house in Cleveland, Ohio in 1956. She lived in California with her daughter's family when she passed away.
