Dennis Hoven, 78, Ada, MN, died Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Bridges Care Community, Ada, MN.

Dennis Elton Hoven was born June 11, 1933, to Edwin and Ruth (Anderson) Hoven in Ada, MN. He grew up in Winchester Township near Borup, MN and attended Borup High School.

Dennis was united in marriage to Marlene Brueshoff on June 27, 1954, at First Lutheran Church in Lockhart, MN. He farmed in Winchester Township, but they made their home in Ada, MN. They had three children, Sheila, Rita and Edward.

Dennis was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN. He worked at Larson Motors in Ada, where he became close friends with Ralph Krause and Chuck Larson. Dennis was a hard working farmer and loved the land. During the winter months he would work at the Ada Produce Company. He loved to snowmobile and believed that Ski-Doo was the best and only snowmobile. He enjoyed attending tractor pulling contests at many county fairs. Many weekends were spent at Twin Lakes, where their friends Ralph and Penny Krause had a cabin. Dennis retired from farming but continued to work for area farmers. Dennis and Marlene took several trips together to Hawaii, New York and Branson. Marlene passed away from injuries suffered from a car accident on June 5, 2000. Later Dennis and his friend, Irene Larson, spent much time together, shopping trips to Fargo, attending social events and gardening. His hobbies included collecting toy tractors, and woodworking. Dennis especially enjoyed spending time and playing toys with his great grandchildren.

Dennis is survived by his daughters, Sheila (Kim) Lewis, Ada, MN, Rita Lee, Moorhead, MN, a son, Edward Hoven, Donnelly, MN, four grandchildren, Chasity (Bobby) Brandt, Brock (Cheryl) Hanson, Brandy (Robert) Arends, and Melody Hoven, eight great grandchildren, Sage, Tiffiny, Giorgia, Miya, and Bree Brandt, Landyn Hoven, Addison Arends and Brooklyn Hanson., a brother, Duane (Grace) Hoven and a sister, Arlene (Dick) Ambuehl, both of Ada, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marlene, a brother, Arlo, and a granddaughter, Heather.

Funeral Service: 11:00am Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada. Visitation: Wednesday from 5-7PM at Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada.

Burial: Ada City Cemetery.
