Mrs. Sarah Lepine Passes at Dutton. Had Lived in Chouteau County for Over 50 Years
Funeral services were held in Fort Benton Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the Catholic church for Mrs. Sarah Lepine, who passed away last Thursday at the ranch home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Maurer of near Dutton. Mrs. Lepine had been in poor health for the past seven years.
Mrs. Lepine was well known in Fort Benton as she had lived in this city since 1915 except for the past three years which had been spent with her daughter near Dutton.
The Lepine family were pioneer residents of this section. Mr. Lepin, who passed away Feb. 4, 1931, had lived in the country about 61 years.
Miss Sarah Marcotte was born in Canada on June 24, 1860, and was nearly 75 years of age at the time of her death. She came to Fort Benton by steamboat in 1880. She was united in marriage to A. Lupine on Aug. 9, 1880, and with the exception of the last three years had always resided here. Mr. Lepine homesteaded on the Teton that year and they lived there until 1915 when they moved to Fort Benton.
To this union were born three daughters, Mrs. T. S. Price, of Moose Jaw, Canada; Mrs. Sarah Maurer, of Dutton, and Mrs. Cyrus Neubert of this city, all of whom survive her. Two children preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Camille Content, of Lewistown; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The six grandsons acted as pallbearers. Mrs. Lepine's passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends throughout the county as her death marks the passing of another one of that notable band of pioneers who are fast passing into the great beyond, and who played a very important part in the development of our state and country and to whom we all owe a great deal for their fortitude and foresight in making of this state the splendid place it is today to live in. Soon they will all have answered the final summons.
The relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in this their great loss of a loving mother, sister and grandmother. The body was laid to rest in Riverside cemetery.
