Mrs. Ruth Berkey
Summerhill Township lost a well-known resident at 6 o'clock yesterday morning in the death of Mrs. Ruth Berkey, widow of the late Daniel Berkey. Mrs. Berkey was forty-six years of age. Her death was caused by acute hernia, from which she had suffered but a few days, and which the physicians were unable to reduce.
The deceased was a daughter of the late Abraham Crum and Mrs. Mandilla Crum, the latter of whom survives at the age of eighty-six years.
She was born in Summerhill Township and had lived there all her life. Mrs. Berkey's mother has been critically ill for some time, and has not yet been informed of the daughter's death.
Mrs. Berkey is survived by the following children: Elizabeth, wife of William Helsel, of South Fork; Amanda, wife of George Jones, who lives near Wilmore; Victoria, wife of Joseph Gotheridge, of Conemaugh, and Daniel D., who is at home.
Her surviving brothers and sisters are John O. Crum, whose home is near Wilmore; William H. Crum, Justice of the Peace of Conemaugh; Mrs. Silas Plummer, of Portage; and Mrs. Isaiah Berkey, of South Fork.
The funeral services will be conducted tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock in Mount Union Cemetery, Summerhill Township. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.
