Richard L. Adams Jr., 52, of Elkhart, passed away October 1, 2008 at his home.
He was born December 8, 1955 in Elkhart County to Richard L. and Ellen (Hollowell) Adams Sr. and married Geneva S. Spry on April 7, 1973 in Woodbury, Tennessee. She survives with a son, Richard (Marcy) Adams of Elkhart; grandchildren, Paige, Natosha, Jeanica, James, Jonathan, Morgan and Brenna Adams of Elkhart; 2 sisters, Carolyn Shook of Christianburg, VA and Nancy (Mike) Tourre of Elkhart; 2 brothers, Raymond Adams and LeRoy (Kathy) Adams of Elkhart; Half-brother, Ronnie Adams of Oklahoma; 2 step-brothers, Mike Winings and Bob Winings of Elkhart; Step-sister, Nancy Caldwell of Elkhart; Step-mother, Rosie Winings of Elkhart and Step-father, Robert Hook of Elkhart. A son, Steven L. Adams preceded in death on May 31, 2003.
Mr. Adams was manager for Himco Waste Away Service for many years, recently he worked as a truck driver for North American. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and the American Legion Post in Osceola. He served in the U.S. Army from 1973-1979 where he was stationed in Germany. He graduated from Jimtown High School where he met his sweetheart, Geneva. He attended IUSB earning a degree in business management. He loved his grandkids and was very proud and supportive of all their accomplishments. He enjoyed remodeling his house and working with his son, Richard.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Friday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1 pm Friday. Dr. Plez Lovelady and Pastor Victor Burson of Southside Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Olive West Cemetery, Elkhart.
