Harvey A Honaker, who departed this life at his home in Cortez on Thursday, February 11th , 1909 , was born in West Virginia July 1st , 1843. He moved with his parents to Missouri when he was four years old where he lived for several years. On February 18, 1866 , he married Miss Jane Gore who , with eight children, survives him. He moved to the Mancos valley in 1883 settling on the ranch now owned and occupied by Geo. Halls . He has lived in the county since and underwent many hardships and privations in company with other pioneer settlers many of whom gathered about his grave to pay a last tribute to his memory.
There were born to Mr. and Mrs. Honaker twelve children eight of which survive and all are now living in Montezuma county. They are Henry, James, Clarence, Clem, and Ernest Honaker, Mrs. Lena Thomas, Mrs. Lula Van Dole and Maggie Honaker. The funeral was held at the Methodist church in Mancos last Saturday afternoon, Rev. Pike conducting the service, and the body laid to rest in Cedar Grove cemetery where he has a brother and one child buried.
