John Wesley Boreing was born May 16, 1852 in London, Kentucky (Laurel County), son of Murray Boreing and Sarah Ruble.

The 1860 Federal Census for Laurel County, Kentucky shows James Boreing, age 8, born in Kentucky; living with his father, Murray Boreing, a farmer, age 47, born in Tennessee; and his mother, Sarah, age 48, born in Tennessee. Also living in the household were James' siblings: Eliza Boreing, age 24, born in Tennessee; Vincent Boreing, a farm laborer, age 20, born in Tennessee; Anmon Boreing, a farm laborer, age 18, born in Tennessee; Jane Boreing, age 10, born in Kentucky; and Charlotte, Boreing, age 5, born in Kentucky.

He served in the Texas Rangers, enlisting May 20, 1874 in Montague County, Texas. He is mentioned in a book entitled "Who They Really Were: Company C, Texas Ranger Frontier Battalion, 1874"

On December 20, 1876 in Laurel County, Kentucky, James married Florence Faris, who was born August 3, 1852, in London, Kentucky (Laurel County), daughter of George Witten Farris (1820-1900) and Adaliza Baugh (1826-1895). James and Florence had three known children: Ran Lee Boreing (1880-1948); Russell Ruble Boreing (1885-1921); and Iva Belle Boreing (1890-1914).

The 1880 Federal Census for Precinct 6, Texas (Montague County) shows James W. Boreing, a farmer, age 28, born in Kentucky; and his wife, Florence, age 27, born in Kentucky. Living with them was one child, Ran Boreing, age 3 months, born in Texas. James and his family were living next door, to James' parents, Murray and Sarah Boreing.

The 1900 Federal Census for Bowie, Texas (Montague County) shows James W. Boreing, a salesman, age 48, born May 1852 in Kentucky; and his wife, Florence, age 47, born August 1852 in Kentucky. Living with them were three children: Ran L. Boreing, age 20, born March 1880; Russell R. Boreing, age 15, born September 1884; and Iva Belle Boreing, age 10, born October 1889; all born in Texas.

Florence died June 13, 1901 in Bowie, Texas (Montague County).

Sometime later, James married Viola (maiden name unknown) who was born February 18, 1965 in Louisiana.

The 1930 Federal Census for Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows J. W. Boreing, an Oklahoma Gas and Electric employee, age 77, born in Kentucky; and his wife, Viola, age 64, born in Louisiana. Living with them was James' son by his first wife, R. L. Boreing, age 50, born in Texas.

James died October 1939 in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and was buried there in the Highland Cemetery. Viola died November 29, 1952 in Durant and was buried next to her husband.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for James Wesley Boreing, 87 year old pioneer of Durant who died Friday night at his home, 324 N. 2nd Avenue, following a week's illness. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

He was born May 16, 1852 in London, Kentucky. He came to Texas as a young man and served several years as a Texas Ranger when the Rangers were in conflict with Indian tribes. He was married in 1905 in Texas, and with his bride came to Oklahoma, first settling in Colgate. They came to Durant 21 years ago and a year later he began his employment with the Oklahoma Gas and Electric here. For his 20 years service with the company he received a 20 year service medal in Ardmore the night before he contracted his fatal illness.

He is survived by his widow; one son R.L. Boreing of Durant; one stepson Edgar Wisdom; one daughter Mrs. A.A. Lester of Oklahoma City; a sister Mrs Betty Lewis of Quanah; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
