Mrs. Martha Phillips Lemley, aged 96 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. S. Hartley of Kirby, Tuesday morning, December 25, of infirmities incident to advanced years. Mrs. Lemley was born on Muddy creek, May 11, 1832 and was probably the oldest woman in Greene county. She was united in marriage with Morris Lemley and they resided in Whiteley township. His death occurred forty years ago. For many years she had been a member of the Shannon Run M. E. church and she was highly esteemed. She leaves the following children: Mrs. Margaret A, Headley, Mt. Morris; Samuel Lemley and Mrs. C. S. Hartley, Kirby; Mrs. Jesse L. Hartley, Waynesburg; Josie Lemley, near Mt. Morris, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Haddie Phillips Dulaney. Kirby, R. D. 1. Nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Hartley. Further services will be held at the home of Josie Lemley, Thursday at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. H. M. Jenkins of Bealisville, assisted by Rev. M. L. Husted of Kirby. Interment in the Lemley family burying ground.
