∼Lorene Kinard Merrell, was an exceptional woman who was born on August 13, 1912 to first time parents Joseph Tollie and Hattie Lee Kinard in De Queen, Arkansas. Lorene became the oldest child of nine children. Lorene suffered great heartache throughout her life, from being assaulted as a child that made her unable to carry children, losing her mother to complications of child birth when she was only 16 years old and she lost one husband to in oil field explosion in Oklahoma in the early 1940s. She was a well-respected beautician who owned her own shop. After she retired she and Travis spent a few years traveling the United States in their mobile home. She married Travis Lee Merrell on Feb. 26, 1958 in Texas, and he died battling Leukemia on Apr. 20, 1984. Lorene was a generous women who made donations to organizations, such as Rock hill cemetery which is where her parents are buried. Lorene retired to Lake Bob Sandlin in 1991, with her niece and nephew in law Glynn and Christine Huddleston. Lorene was my great great aunt, and I can remember her being a strong woman who was caring and loving. She suffered so much in her life yet, she moved forward and never let her hardships keep her from living her life to the very fullest. She lived downstairs from my great grandmother and I can remember running down there and spending time with her. She died on Feb. 6, 1993 in Pittsburg, Texas, after battling complications from a severe stroke in 1985, which completely paralyzed her entire right side, and a hip surgery she had 1992 that she never fully recovered from
