Mrs. Katie Elizabeth Bates, age 75, of Dallas, Georgia, passed away on Friday, November 27, 1998 in Tranquility Hospice in Austell, Georgia.

She was born on July 7, 1923 in Paulding County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. Elmer Baxter and the late Mrs. Lillie (Tant) Baxter. She was Baptist Faith and a Homemaker.

Surviving are her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. (Annette) Brooks of Austell; her son, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Wayne (Charlene) Bates of Villa Rica; her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Violet) Baxter of Virginia; 6 granddaughters, Mrs. Debra Donaldson of Hiram, Mrs. Melissa Steffey of Powder Springs, Miss. Pam Bates of Lawrenceville, Miss Dana Bates of Villa Rica, Mrs. Patricia Butler of Lithia Springs and Mrs. Angie Felts of Dallas; Grandson, Mr. Lee Brooks of Atlanta; 5 great-grandchildren, Ashley Brooks of Hiram, Cody Donaldson of Hiram, Courtney Butler of Lithia Springs, Nicholas Bates of Stockbridge and Matthew Bates of Lawrenceville; special niece and nephew; Milton and Matilda Strickland of Dallas; other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Pink Bates, "J.P.", as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, on February 4, 1964.

Funeral Services were conducted on Monday, November 30, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home with Rev. Voyles officiating. Interment followed in New Hope Cemetery.

Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
