Mrs. Rebecca (Flenner) Sharp, the oldest resident of Summerhill, expired suddenly at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Nipps, between 9 and 10 o'clock Wednesday night after an illness of a few hours.
Mrs. Sharp was able to be about the house all day Wednesday, taking ill soon after supper. The cause of her death was general debility. Several relatives were at her bedside when she passed away.
The deceased was born at Taneytown, Caroll Township, Maryland, on January 11, 1813, coming to Cambria County with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Flenner, in 1825, when they located in the vicinity of what is known as present Lloydell. Her parents died in this county many years ago and the only surviving member of her family was her sister, Mrs. Lydia Sidman, of Bellwood, Blair County.
Rebecca Flenner was married twice, the first time to Johnston Palmer, who was killed many years ago on Pringle Hill by a tree falling on him. Two children were born to this union, the first one dying in infancy and the other being William Palmer, at present residing in Portage.
Her second husband as Allen Sharp, who died at Summerhill July 11, 1882. The following children were born to this union: Daniel, Eliza Jane, Henry, Mary, and Rebecca, all deceased; Joseph, who resides on the old homestead; Mrs. William Nipps, mentioned above, and Mrs. Abraham Pringle, of Wilmore. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The deceased resided on Pringle Hill for forty years before locating in Summerhill in 1872, and many acquaintances will be sorry to learn of her sudden summons. Mrs. Sharp was a good woman and an agreeable neighbor.
She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, and her pastor, the Rev. George K. Allen, of the Lutheran Church of Summerhill, will conduct the obsequies at the Nipps home at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The remains will be laid to rest in the Pringle Hill Cemetery.
