He was born Dec. 10, 1961, in Redwood City, Calif., to Warren and Margaret (Hyland) Byers. He moved to Red Wing in 1962 with his family and in 1980 he graduated from high school in Limestone, Ill. He served in the United States Air Force and upon discharge he worked as an ophthalmologist technician in various communities in Minnesota. He has lived in Red Wing since 1995. In 2000 he married Laura Muller in Red Wing.
He was a member of the Cornerstone Community Church. He enjoyed downhill skiing, was a dedicated family man, and was always helping others, including being an organ donor at the time of his death.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Laura; four children, Destiny and Charity Muller and Grace and Daniel Byers, all of Red Wing; his mother, Margaret Byers of Red Wing; four sisters, Anne (Mike) Kalscheuer of Minnetonka, Mary Byers of North Liberty, Iowa, Kathleen (Doug) Dietel of Edinburg, Ill., and Colleen Falk of Fallston, Md.; three brothers, Joe (Sue) Byers of Fresno, Calif., Bruce Byers of New Mexico, and Tim Byers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Annick Muller of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Byers, and father-in-law, Frank Muller.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson Mahn Chapel, with Reverend Tim Bennyhoff officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the funeral home and for 1 hour prior to the service.
