U.S. Congressman. He attended Franklin Academy and went on to be successful in business as a manufacturer of flannels and broadcloths at Ware, Massachusetts. Entering politics, he was a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives in 1853, was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions and served as a member of the Governor's council, (1867 to 1870). On January 27, 1875, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Alvah Crocker, serving until March 3, 1875. After leaving office, he continued his previous business interests until his death.
