John Wesley Curtis, the eighth child of nine, was born to William and Jane Curtis. At the age of five, John W., was living in Carroll County, Ky. with his parents.
His first marriage was to red haired Rebecca R. Pickett Dickey, a young widow, in 1868 in Scott Co., Ky. He and Rebecca had eight sons. They also raised Rebecca's four Dickey children. He and Rebecca bought land on the waters of Caney Creek in 1876, located in a hollow off the Plummer Pike. After the death of Rebecca in 1890, John Wesley married second Millie Ann Cottrell in 1892 in Scott Co. The couple had eight children.
Mr. John Wesley Curtis, aged 81 years, died after a few days illness of pneumonia at his home near Caesarea. Mr. Curtis, married twice, was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Pickett Curtis. He is survived by his widow, Millie Anne Cottrell Curtis, and 13 children. The burial took place at Minorsville cemetery. Five of his sons and one grandson acting as pallbearers. They were Wister, Richard, Aurelius, Alphonso, Nathan Curtis, and grandson John R. Curtis. Mr. Alex Curtis, of Indiana, another son did not get here.
