GRAND ISLAND. Neb. — Sister Mary Joseph Fraser, 86, Grand Island, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003.
Sister Mary Joseph was born Teresa Aurelia Fraser on Nov. 19, 1916, at Concordia.
She received the habit of t he Sisters of St. Joseph on March 18, 1935, and was given the religious name, Sister Mary Joseph. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1936, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1939. She was an elementary school teacher and a principal from 1936 to 1975 and taught in Kansas schools in Cawker City, Antonino, St. Peter, Tipton, Pfeifer, Vincent, Herington, Park, Salina and Leawood.
Survivors include two sisters, Rita Galvin of Kansas City, Kan., and Ella Thurston of Jamestown, Kan.; and three brothers, Raymond of Omaha; Paul of Hillsborough, Calif., and Dennis of Denver.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Nazareth Convent Chapel, Concordia. Burial will be in Nazareth Convent Cemetery.
A Bible vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Nazareth Convent Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Retirement Fund or Apostolic Works of the Sisters, P.O. Box 279, Concordia, KS 66901. Chaput-Buoy Mortuary, Concordia, KS, is handling arrangements.
