He was the son of John and Fadelia Pratt Allen, both of Callaway county, Missouri.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Ulmer-Drake Funeral home and burial was in Park Cemetery.

FUNERAL TOMORROW AFTERNOON AT BAPTIST CHURCH
Son, Charles, and Brother C. T. Allen Are Members of Council From Second Ward
James William Allen, 76, janitor at the First Baptist Church the last nine years and former employee of the Carthage Crushed Limestone Company, died at 8:55 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 604 West Central avenue.
He had been ill several months and the last month had been confined to his bed. He suffered from a complication of ailments.
Mr. Allen was born June 6, 1858 in Callaway county, Missouri and was married there on January 18, 1889 to Miss Frances Foster. They came to Carthage to make their home 24 years ago. Mr. Allen was employed by the Carthage Crushed Limestone Company about 12 years.
Surviving are his wife and six children, Mrs. Guy W. Davis; Carl, Charles, Gilbert and Emery Allen, all of Carthage, and Elwood Allen of Joplin; two brothers, C. T. Allen of Carthage and A. J. Allen of Washington, D. C., a sister, Mrs. Sarah Wakley of Elsberry, MO.; and seven grandchildren. The son, Charles Allen and the brother, C. T. Allen are both members of the city council from the second ward.
He was a member of the First Baptist church and the M.W.A. Lodge.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the First Baptist church, Burial will be in Park Cemetery. The Rev. A. A. DuLaney, pastor, will be in charge.
