He was born May 22, 1923, at Bluebell, Utah, to Robert Marks Jenkins and Nyda Smith Jenkins. He grew up in Utah. He moved to Idaho Falls at the age of 18, then served in the Navy during World War II in San Diego and Guam.
He married Georgia Hammon in 1948 in Idaho Falls, and they had a son and were later divorced.
He married Gwendola Mangum Caughie July 24, 1971, in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Idaho Falls and he worked at several farms in the area, including the Lionel Brown farm. He then worked at Frenches (later Pillsbury) and retired from Fresh Pak.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as Sunday School President and was active in scouting. He served a full-time mission to Atlanta, Georgia with his wife. He enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, and making things like wind chimes, lamps, and flowers.
