Sarah Elizabeth Nelson Moore, known as Sallie, was the youngest of ten children born to John Nelson (1812-1903) and his wife Elizabeth Pendley Nelson (1816-1880). On both sides of her family she descended from early settlers in the upper Yadkin River in what is now Caldwell Co., NC. She grew up on her father's farm above Patterson. On June 24, 1873, Sallie married Job B. Moore (1852-1931). The couple settled on a farm in the Yadkin Valley and there raised six children: Thomas Ervin (b. ca. 1875), Elizabeth J. (Bettie, b. 1876), Jesse Lee (b. 1878), John Nelson (b.1879), Addie (b. 1883), and Ann (b. 1885). Also in the household was Sallie's widowed father. Sometime after John Nelson's death in 1903, Job and Sarah moved over the mountains to a farm in Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN. In late winter of 1931 Job and Sallie both came down with influenza. Job died on March 21 and Sallie died two days later at the age of 75 years.
