Dr. Gerald B. Dickinson, 67, of Paragould, passed away Monday, August 15, 2011, at his residence.

He was born March 4, 1944 in Harrisburg.

Dr. Dickinson received his B.A. from Arkansas Tech University where he was a four year letterman in football and two year letterman in track and field; and his advanced degrees from Arkansas State University and the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Dickinson served the educational profession for thirty-nine years as a teacher, coach, and an administrator in Arkansas public schools and as a professor in higher education in the Department of Educational Leadership, Curriculum, and Special Education at Arkansas State University. In addition, he was the Director of the Office of Educational Research and Services at ASU and was instrumental in planning and implementing ASU's first doctoral program, the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership..

Prior to his career at ASU, Dr. Dickinson taught at DeWitt, Lee County, and Westside; served as principal at Parkin, and Mountain Home; assistant superintendent at Mountain Home and superintendent at Greene County Tech.

He was a charter member of the Arkansas Professors of Educational Administration, member of the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration, a lifetime member of the Arkansas Activities Association and a ten year trustee of the Greene County Library. He was a member of the 7th and Mueller Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Dickinson of Paragould; one son and daughter-in-law, Bart and Leslie Dickinson of Little Rock; and one daughter, LeAnn Dickinson of Jonesboro. Survivors also include two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles and Sharon Dickinson of Benton, and Byron Dickinson of Lead Hill; one sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Danny Goodwin of DeWitt; and three grandchildren, Blake, Parker and Graham Dickinson of Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jewel Dickinson.

The funeral service was held at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Gracelawn Cemetery, at Tuckerman.
