W. Wayne Tritt of Carlisle passed into eternity on Aug. 29, 2011. He was born on June 28, 1922, in Penn Township, Cumberland County, the son of the late Albert C. and Elnora J. March Tritt.

He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, the former Esther Jane McKinney, who died March 16, 2005.

Mr. Tritt was a 1940 graduate of Carlisle High School. He served in the U.S. Army's 69th Infantry Division during World War II. Wayne was a draftsman at U.S. Steel in Shiremanstown for 14 years and in 1987 retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare after 19 years of service.

Mr. Tritt was active in First Church of the Brethren, Carlisle, and previously Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren.

Mr. Tritt also had an interest in family history and his Swiss heritage. He was especially grateful to live to enjoy his six great-grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons, Leonard W. and wife Connie Tritt of Carlisle and David E. and wife Debra Tritt of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Carol A. Tritt of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren Jill Tritt Weisheit and husband James of Etters, Randall Tritt and wife Courtney of Midlothian, Va., Andrew Tritt and wife Sandra of Hazleton, Jacob Tritt and wife Nancy of Colorado and Isaac Tritt and wife Holly of Carlisle; and the joy of his life, his great-grandchildren, Japheth, Gabriel and Eliana Tritt, Sydney and Kailyn Tritt and Carlee Weisheit.

He is also survived by two brothers, Clair Tritt of Carlisle and Ray Tritt of Sycamore, Ill.; one sister, Marie Mischitz of Bradenton, Fla.; sisters-in-law Martha Trimmer of Carlisle and Helen Louise Barrick of Clearwater, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a great-grandson, Seth L. Tritt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at First Church of the Brethren, Carlisle, with the Rev. Jim Abe and Marla Abe co-officiating. Burial will be in Longsdorf Cemetery, New Kingstown.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, and also Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
